Objectives

This course covers some essentials on gglobal businessh, such as global strategy, strategic alliance (JV with local companies) and marketing strategy. The course is organized by combining lectures on theory, case method teaching and guest speaker talks to foster studentsf problem solving abilities in a real business world. In addition, a focus is put on emerging economies, particularly China and India. In order to facilitate effective interactive process in case based teaching, a number of enrolled students could be restricted to around 40 students. In this process, students in the TMI departments (including TMI sub-major) as well as those who are in the final year of each course (i.e., the second year of master course, or the third year of doctor course) have some priority.

Grading:

Made by weighted average of the following items

l  Class ParticipationF40% (A short report, around 50 words, based on a mini quiz, is collected at the end of each date. The deadline is 12:10 of each date).

l  Case Write Up: 30“i15“ eachj

l  Group work + presentationF30“

 

What is case write up ?

l  A student is required a writing up (2 pages with reasonable font size), corresponding to the questions at the end of each material (each chapter of the textbook).

l  You need to submit your write ups for two cases. One is for the Chapter 14 of the text book, gSuzuki Motorfs Expansion in Indiah. For another one, you can pick up one out of 4 cases delivered in the class (up to your favorite).

l  The size of report is two pages for each (2 pages * 2 cases, 4 pages in total).

l  The submission of case write is organized by ITC-LMS by November 30, 17:00.

 

Group work assignment

l  Suppose you are assigned as a member of international division of multinational corporation, and asked by your boss about studying the potentiality of new business outside of your country. Please build up your new business plan.

l  Grading of this project is made by ppt file and oral presentation at the last class. (Or, individual meeting will be set-up).

l  Detail instructions will be given in the course.
